Need to be careful with legalities and forum rules.Sky recordings are encrypted on the disk, its not possible to decrypt them, except using their equipment and a valid card, so you can't just copy the recording to your laptop and view it.In the pre digital era you could simply attach the output of the sky box (i.e. RF) to a recording device (like a capture card), job done. Not easy with digital because the signal from an HDMI output is encrypted with HDCP. Recording devices are frowned upon by the hdmi association, so devices that can decode HDCP and then let you record are rare - Elgato have devices but as I understand it they do not decode HDCP as they are aimed at games consoles.I'm aware of devices that allegedly can decode the HDCP, if they actually work or not I don't know. Even then using one to copy content you don't own would be illegal I believe. In all honesty you're probably better off seeing if the programme in question is obtainable on DVD. I've made back-ups of my important Sky+ shows when moving between boxes. Using the Elgato game recorder and a hdmi splitter. These are shows that haven't/aren't going to be released on disc, as are re-enactment documentaries I have worked on/in or news stories where we appear.Be much easier if Sky had a disk transfer function or some form of metadata attached to your account that auto linked on-demand shows to your new box - not ideal but probably would cover 75% of most folks needs.

HDR ( High Dynamic Range) support is planned for the coming months. The regular Sky Q box has 1TB of storage (up to 150 hours of HD) and has fewer TV tuners - eight - only supporting simultaneous viewing on one tablet and one Sky Q Mini box. It is Full HD 1080p and is not capable of Ultra HD playback.
